The CrossFit Open is an international event, it is a series of 5 WOD’s (workouts) that are posted on-line with instructions on what the movements are, and every one who registers has a chance to do the workout and record their result. You do the workout in front of a judge at your local CrossFit box, and then record your results. The top 30 in Australia will head to the Regionals and will have an opportunity to represent their CrossFit box at a Australia wide event held in June.
CrossFit Open 15.2 is the second WOD of 5 WOD’s, it included 10 over head squats and 10 chest to bar pull ups, 2 rounds in 3 minutes, every three minutes 2 more reps were added, until you failed to complete the reps in the 3 minutes.
Going back to CrossFit CrossAxed to cover the Open 15.2 workout, I realised again what I enjoyed about photographing the Semper Paratus event there, the way every body gets behind the people competing. The Open workout held here was no different, fair and hard judges, which make you strive harder and push further, yet still smile while doing your workout!
About 60 people completed the Open workout, some doing the RX version (full weights) and others opting for scaled (smaller weight options which is a first for the CrossFit Open). Having the elite athletes working out with people doing the scaled versions gives all the athletes an extra edge.
Every one knows doing a workout on your own can be a little hard, as there is less motivation and it is easier to slacken off, as you are the only one judging your workout. By having all the divisions on the workout working together the atmosphere changes. I know I took a minute out of taking pictures to encourage some one who looked like they needed a little push. The smile on their face after the workout said it all!
Glad to see some familiar faces and thanks to all for saying hi! I am glad that I was able to finally get images of Rob and Ollie working out too.
I plan to cover each of the 5 WOD’s at a different CrossFit box each week, to give a wider perspective of the boxes around Brisbane and maybe be able to show off some of the best athletes in Brisbane.
So here are the images from tonight, keep your eyes peeled as I may be at your CrossFit box next.
